For over a decade Randy Bachman captured the full array of San Francisco's glittering nightlife, from the rise of punk rock to scrapping young comedians unheard of outside the City. Barely over four feet tall and misshapen by a congenital deformity, Bachman was a favorite backstage throughout the Bay Area because of his happy-go-lucky air. But Bachman was more than a chronicler of the scene--he was part of the circus, appearing in MTV videos with some of rock's biggest stars. The more than 300 photographs of the stars and superstars include well-known comedians such as Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Paula Poundstone, and Whoopi Goldberg and musicians from Led Zeppelin, Jerry Garcia, Tina Turner, and James Brown to the Scorpions, the Residents, The Clash and Leon Redbone. Joel Selvin has been the rock critic for the San Francisco Chronicle for most of the last three decades.
